Keck Observatory’s Human Resources and Administration Manager, Naomi Ahuna, provides the following background on the Observatory’s commitment to the Hawai‘i Island community:

“The Observatory participated in a two-day Strategic Planning Workshop in December 2002. This workshop involved more than 40 Keck Observatory staff and representatives from the University of California and the California Institute of Technology, our parent institutions. From this workshop we derived our core and cultural values, mission and vision statements, and an outline of a Strategic Plan which has been further developed into our organization’s roadmap and corporate culture. One of the programs that came out of the 2002 planning workshop was to encourage our staff to devote two percent of their annual work hours to community service activities.”
